Svanberg puts foot in mouth - get the t-shirt

BP Chairman of the Board, Carl-Henric Svanberg, really put his foot in his mouth yesterday when he proclaimed that, not to worry, "BP cares about the small people" (and apparently, so does Obama...). Way to sit there on your high horse and look down, Svanberg.

I won't really spend any more time on that moronic statement from "the invisible man", but I'll definitely be getting myself one of these:

Thank you, SAS

Got this e-mail from SAS earlier today, informing me that they will start adding their ridiculous "fuel fee" on their frequent flyer bonus flights as well, so these won't be free (well, except government taxes) anymore.

First of all, what the heck is this fuel fee anyway? I mean, the plane fuel is an essential part of any flight taking place, it's not really an option. Why don't they introduce a pilot fee as well, or a cabin crew fee, while they're at it? It's not like we can deselect either of these when we book our flights?

Second, when this fuel fee was introduced last year the oil price was double what it is now, and it skyrocketed in just a couple of months prior to introducing the fee. There should be no need for any extra fuel fees at this point.

I appreciate that SAS are in a tough spot at the moment, but if you need to increase those ticket prices, just do so without blaming the fuel prices and introducing Ryanair style fees. That is just annoying.

The price of gas

Could someone please explain this to me:

Last year the oil cost 145 USD per barrel, and 1 USD was worth 6 SEK. One barrel cost 870 SEK.

Today the oil costs 70 USD per barrel, and 1 USD is worth 7,70 SEK. One barrel costs 539 SEK.

So why the hell is the gas price virtually the same (13 SEK/liter and increasing week by week versus an "all time high" of 14 SEK last year)? Yes, I know 0,4 SEK is contributed to an increase of the gas tax, but there's still a pretty big gap here, and God only knows what the gas price will look like once the oil reaches 145 again...
